Western US Heat Wave: Record-Breaking Temperatures Continue
Extreme Heat Broils Western United States
Predicted Temperatures Highest of 2023
The intense early-season heat wave in the Western United States is expected to continue, with temperatures predicted to be the highest of 2023 so far. This major departure from the region's typically mild summer weather has already led to widespread power outages and dangerous health conditions.
As of Friday, the heat wave has affected millions of people in California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, and parts of Oregon and Idaho. High temperatures have reached the 110s in many areas, with Saturday expected to be the hottest day yet.
The heat wave is expected to last through at least Tuesday of next week, with triple-digit temperatures becoming commonplace. An excessive heat warning is in effect until late Wednesday evening for Death Valley, California, where temperatures could reach a staggering 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
