Can You Suspend on Instant Speed? A Deep Dive into Magic's Suspend Keyword
What is Suspend?
Suspend is a keyword ability that allows you to exile a card from your hand with the specified time counter on it. You can then play that card for its suspend cost at any time while the time counter is on it.
When Can You Suspend?
You can only suspend a card from your hand if you have priority and could cast it. This means that you cannot suspend a card if an opponent has priority, or if you are tapped out. Only cards that can be played at sorcery speed have the suspend keyword. This means that you cannot suspend an instant or a creature with flash.
How Does Suspend Work?
When you suspend a card, you exile it with the specified time counter on it. The time counter decreases by one each turn. Once the time counter reaches zero, you can play the card for its suspend cost. You can only have one of each card in play at a time. If you try to suspend a card that you already have in play, the new card will be exiled instead.
