Zinedine Zidane Resigns as Real Madrid Manager
Second Departure in Coaching Career
Manager Leaves After Trophy-Less Season
Madrid, Spain - Zinedine Zidane has stepped down as manager of Real Madrid for the second time in his coaching career. The Frenchman announced his decision at a press conference on Thursday, saying that he felt the club no longer had faith in him.
Zidane's departure comes after a disappointing season for Real Madrid, who failed to win any trophies. The team finished second in La Liga, behind rivals Barcelona, and was eliminated from the Champions League in the semi-finals by Chelsea.
Zidane, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, first took over as Real Madrid manager in 2016. He led the team to three consecutive Champions League titles, as well as a La Liga title and two Spanish Super Cups.
